Say hello to Daniel! Daniel was left outside of an abandoned shelter one night when the temperatures were below freezing. He spent the next several days trying to stay warm and safe before some kind people (aka angels) were able to trap him and take him to a shelter. Sadly, the shelter seemed to think Daniel would not have a quality life and were considering euthanasia. Fortunately, Daniel’s wonderful angels swooped in and asked for a little more time and then they began reaching out to poodle rescues until they found us and now he’s in our care. We’ll never know what happened to Daniel; why he can barely walk or how painful his life has been, but we do know that if it weren’t for his “angels” he wouldn’t have a chance and we’re forever grateful to them for reaching out to us!
We’ve taken Daniel to see a neurologist and an orthopedic and they feel there’s nothing that can be done to correct his legs at this point. Daniel was most likely born like this and has adjusted over his lifetime. Any attempt to correct them now would entail several surgeries and the likelihood of a positive outcome would be slim to none, causing Daniel much discomfort for nothing. However, Daniel doesn’t know there’s anything wrong with him! Daniel was neutered and had a dental where he lost 4 teeth.
Daniel is a sweet boy who’s had a difficult past. In the time he’s spent in foster care, he’s slowly been letting his guard down. He has a silly and playful side and desperately wants to be included. He follows his foster mother from room to room and enjoys spending time on the deck and in the yard in the sun. Daniel loves going for car rides! He is a good boy but he comes with baggage from past abuse and will need time to settle in any new situation.
The ideal home for Daniel is with a single person or a quiet, understanding couple. A home without other dogs or cats would be best as Daniel would prefer not to have to share. Daniel is very smart and quick to learn. He also would like to be the boss which is why we are looking for a home with past poodle experience and one where Daniel will not be allowed to be in charge. He will require an adult only home – no children and no teens.
If you’re interested in adopting this sweet and challenging boy AND you have all the requirements, please submit an application to be considered. Daniel’s adoption fee is $400.
